I called my favorite shop (my dad went to his dad, I went to his dad, now I go to the son) Stuard Transmissions on Beckly south of downtown for a 700r4 (pref 87-92) model but he has nothing on his shelf and as its a change, I have no old core.

I went to pick and pull but couldn't get off the tranny on the only truck that had what I wanted (stripped nuts from previous owner and locked up motor). The other junque places had them but at $250 I could throw the dice, but would rather just get one ready to go.

Anyone have a shop they like local? (or know of a rebuildable core?)

Nice shop. Since I am using 230 ci I6 with the transmission I don't think I'll need one of their high $ performance units. Thanks for the reference. I checked out their web site based on the email address.

For what it's worth - I've heard good things about Phoenix and Scott in the past. I've never done business with them, but have had several people mention them.

There is a shop on the north west corner of plano parkway and greenville, in Plano that I have talked with about my Saginaw and now with my Saginaw/Muncie OD. If I needed my transmission worked on, I would go with him.

I do not have any other experience with him but he was knowledgeable, gave good advise, and helped me with searching the Dallas area for old obsolete parts.

I talked to Eagle Transmission and did not trust them.

There is a pick a part yard in Ft Worth called Auto Dismantlers 2000..south on 121 exit Carson..
go left under the bridge and all the way down to the "T"..then right.. a few blocks on the left with big signs you can't miss... Engines are $69 tranny's I believe were $59... no joke.... it is a
big yard... ton of cars...
Once you go in the yard.. to your right there is an area with fresh cars that says.. NO Admitance... they have some of their own guys pulling engines and trannies for themselves in that area... you can walk in there and look at what is about to be pulled... go and make a deal with the guys inside if you see something you like ..... I've seen them keep engines to sell but not trannies...so you might be able to get them to do the dirty work for free ...or at a low cost...might be able to slip one of the guys a bill and they could change order of what they were going to pull next to what you wanted...
knowing Spainish helps....they are all pretty nice there and dirt cheap... I get alot of stuff from there...Buena Suerte... I'll take you over there on a Saturday or Sunday if you want to go..
I live in Arlington...

Muchas Garcias ( wink ) Hermano! Hablo espanol como fui un Mexicano! Voy a recordar ese tienda.

Certainly helps. I actually got on the 67-72 board and found a 700r4 that was an eagle tranny 3 time redo. The story the owner told me that the old guy there said he could set up that TV cable no problem just by feel. Obviously he was right because the guy went back 2 times for rebuilds and gave up the third time! The tranny now doesn't work well cold, but is ok hot. I am having it redid by someone I know and trust.
