Should I just eyeball the mounting or are there some quidelines about where it should be mounted ie. "X" number of inches from the back of the hood?

The original 47-53 truck hood ornament, "986162 HOOD ORNAMENT - TRUCK", came with a template for locating the holes. Maybe someone has a template and will send it to you. Do you have an old, original ornament or a reproduction ornament?
