Could someone tell me if my 1950 1/2 ton should have black running boards or should they be the color of the truck?
What did it look like originally from the factory?

My best advice, is DO WHAT MAKES YOU FEEL HAPPY. Don't restore your truck to keep up with the jones'. If you want to put purple running boards on with poca-dots, then do it. If you want to put hardwood flooring in the bed in lieu of original style wood do it. Just enjoy the thing, don't stress over what anyone thinks. That is my best advice to give on this subject. I used Eastwood's ceramic chassis paint- gloss black. After they cured, they aren't super glossy, more like semi gloss... perfect. That paint sprays really well too. Black is definitely the original color, but we all still debate if they were gloss, semi, or satin. I think mine are just right.

kgw51gmc.....You're exactly right about fixing up the truck to please ME. I'm trying to stick with an original look, but I'm drawn to a truck with matching running boards. I think I've decided to paint mine the color of the truck when I paint it.

oldcarandtrucknut.......I'm going to paint the running boards black for the time being until I shoot the entire truck. I want a satin look. No high gloss for me! Hey thats one good looking 3600 you've rebuilt there!! Congrats! What's the name of that red color you used? Is it an original color?

cape maroon, it's an original color. Eastwood also has that ceramic paint in satin. It seems to be pretty durable.

Cape Maroon.......never heard of that color, and didn't know it was an original color. Like it enough that I may shoot my truck with it when the time comes.

something i am going to be doing on my 39 running boards is going with a rhino lining "i really don't want to have to repaint them every few years

Daniel...I found a sandblast and powdercoat guy that had done some parts for a customer in "Krinkle" black and it looked awesome!! Consider doing it that way. Very clean looking.
