I am still having problems with the engine under load and i do not have a hose from the distributor and i have an opening on the carburetor thats not being used. Its next the to fuel air mixture screw.

If your engine has a points distributor equipped with a vacuum advance can then it needs to be connected to a ported tap on the carburetor. I'm guessing this is the case with a '65 six cylinder.
Some carburetors have more than one port but I believe some only have one and again, I'll guess that the little one you found is indeed the tap for the vacuum advance can. Lets see if someone shows up to confirm my guess. That port should be plugged now if there is no hose attached.

Any ideas if this would cause the engine to choke under throtle but run great while ideling.

There will be an opening in the side of the distributor for the vacuum advance if that is the case. The original distributors had trouble with the breaker plate connection to ground, and also with shaft bushing wear. Both conditions would cause varying degrees of low-speed engine roughness off-idle and/or when the vacuum advance actuated. Someone may have removed the advance control as a remedy, but leaving the vacuum line off would do the same thing. Neither was a proper repair for the problem- it just covered up the problem.
Your off-idle trouble could be either inadequate accelerator pump discharge, or distributor trouble. Remove the air cleaner, and with the engine stopped, open the choke and work the accelerator linkage for about half-throttle. You should see a strong squirt of fuel as soon as the throttle moves.

That would be one special unit not to have a vacuum advance unit on it. The port right next to the idle adjustment screw is were most of the vacuum advance lines hooked up. So i have to buy a distributor from a 67 chevy bisycane in order to have a distributor with an advance on it. Its only 37 dollars though. The motor is a 250 ci, which is the same as the orginall 292 that was in the truck; except the block is 2 inches shorter. The components are apraently the same. I am trying to confirm this with relation to the spark plug gap and the points gap settings. any help and all previous help is what makes every one here the best. You guys make this seem relativley easy for a 27 year old guy.
