I am finishing prepping a tail gate foro paint that had some surface rust. Not enough to pit it, so its smooth and ready to go but someone once meentioned rust spots should get a final acid wash to rmove any rust that still may be lingering. True? If so, what kind of acid?

Phosphoric Acid works well.
