1. replace motor with 8 cylinder, auto trans, rearend and what do I do about brakes??
2. Buy cab and chassis of flat bed tow truck and put my cab on chassis.
Questions would be on #1 how much work and can it be done and how much$$ versus #2 buy cab and chassis and install my cab $$$

Also think about a dual circuit brake system. What does the truck weigh, and how big is the body?
Do you have enough power to go as fast as you want?

If you want to safely go faster with a 12,000 lb truck you've got a lot of work to do.

If so, their are two additional considerations. First your possible liability issues are increased, so safety is an even bigger concern. Second you can't count on the driver knowing the truck and knowing when to slow down, so good brakes and ease of operation are crucial to safety.
