When I take-off from a stand-still it quickly shifts up to third gear. As I try and accelerate I get what sounds like an octane ping and at the same time valve chatter/rattle. Had the head done about 1,000 miles ago with hardened seats and valves. Rockers are original as are pushrods and solid lifters. What's up and how do I solve the problem(s)? Thanks!

Engine timing could be too far advanced making it ping under load.

They will have instructions for adjusting the transmission shift points. As Greq_H points out it has to do with the length of the throttle pressure linkage.
