Looking to get some information for my business idea, some of you guys are aware that Ive been working on how to videos for body work.
Doing research for a class that is helping me develop and fine tune my idea that Ive had for the past few years.

I sure would appreciate it if you guys could spare a moment or two and fill out my survey. Thanks...Eric

1. Would you purchase instructional videos on such topics as welding, painting, quarter panel replacement etc?

2. Do you have a t.v. out in the garage?

3. Do you feel like you need help selecting tools and equipment?

4. Do you feel the need for a one stop place to purchase the videos and equipment?

5. Do you think the current crop of videos is providing the correct and detailed information you need?

6. What would you like to see in how to videos on auto body repair, any specific topics?

7. Are you willing to spend money on a video that appears to detailed and specific but from an unknown source, or from a company you recongize but not specific more overview?

Currently working on custom metal and How to videos.

I would have to say no on all. I used to work as a bodyman/painter & and am now in auto claims appraising, so I know my way around the body aspect of repairs.
I would think if you produce a good quality product there would be a good response from quite a few people who are wanting to learn what you know & should do OK with it. A lot of do it yourself restoration guys & gals would be well off to have a good quality educational video to assist in their projects. Good luck with the endeavor.

I'd also have to say no to each because I happen to know my limitations and skills.

But more importantly, if you are considering a start up business keep in mind that there are already heavy hitters established that you would be competing with and in this uncertain economy now would not be a good time to play David vs Goliath.

But don't let me deter you. If you have a dream, go for it. If you fail, at least you can say you tried. If you succeed it will be a great source of pride.

I had two businesses fail before I got it right. Just learn from your mistakes.

No to all! I took an auto/body class from the local Vocational Tech School. Learned a bunch. Also got to use their equipment on my own vehicle. Also took a welding class there!!

I would do a short video and post it on you tube. See how many hits you get and go from there. I watched Kelly redo her 54' on there and there are several people using it to market longer versions of how to videos. At least people can see the quality of your video and your work. I have rented several how to videos from smartflix.com the latest was on changing the ring and pinion on a GM 10 bolt rear end. That is another good outlet for videos on any subject. Your skill level would determine if I would purchase the video or not. I am good to go if I can learn something new.

I have done a lot of painting and such over the years. I however would invite some info. ref: body work. However I am always interested in learning more. I also am interested in the latest paints and primers and such which are available. The only way I find out about this stuff is word of mouth. This can be slow in coming.

I can't answer the questions without a lot of NO's. But I think for the people just starting out, or just wanting to fix their vehicles, not restoring due to experience, economics and all that these times are bringing. I would like to see some down to basics, old time, back yard, good stuff. How to straighten a cab with a floor jack and some 4X4's, not every one has a port-a-power, mig welder, stick welder etc... Also some of the new tech like Lord Fusor structural adhesive for panels and floor pans. Go off the beaten path (it has been beaten to death) and look towards the people who want to repair and use their trucks on a budget. They will spend the money for good usable advice that will save them grief and problems down the road and give them proper repairs.
