This is a great idea and hope it catches on. I got a 61 stepside I have been working on for the past 12 years. Front sheet metal is all done and ready for paint. Working on the rear fenders now and hope to have it done this summer.

I too would love if this catches on. I got a 61 fleetside this winter and have been just itching to start on it, but cant do much with the late snow and river flooding in our area. But as soon as I do start im sure Ill be on here looking for answers every night!

I'm a little late responding to your post but working on your 61 for 12 years has got to be an "award-winning" commitment. You're the man!

I also have a 61 stepside with about 1 1/2 years on a full out restoration/modification. I love these trucks and enjoy working on mine everytime. I'm blasting the frame at this point but am ready to head back the other way. Once I paint the frame, its build up vice tear down. If my math is right and the money is there, I may finish at 3+ years.

Ditto to the above. Mine is a 65 one ton, duh. My comment is that I've been driving past this truck parked in a neighboring town for years and never paid a bit of attention. Then one day I got the idea to start another project (my wife thinks I'
m about a gigabyte short of ram when it comes to these things). So, I bought it and fixed a flat tire on the side of the road home. The truck sat for months while I thought about it andplanned what to do. Along comes my brother and his 4 boys. There ain't no two parts still attached together and it's spread all over the yard. Took 3 days in the hot Kansas sun to do this. No Pictures???? I hereby promise to take pics of the rebuild. I don't promise 100% stovebolt going back together.

Back 12 years ago I would not have thought it would take me this long to get it done. Back then I had plenty of time, but no extra money for the truck. Now it is the other way around. It's been a long road with allot of ups and downs and it was all well worth it. Good luck guy's on you trucks. Have fun.

You gyus are an inspiration. I just bought a '66 Chevy C10. 350/350. Body is straight and nice, but the cab floor and rockers are bad. I love these old trucks and I am looking forward to restoring it for my step-son. He's 10 now, so I guess I have 7 years to do it. Any tips or tricks on cutting out and welding that floor would be greatly appreciated.

I had started taking my truck apart in 1993.. Back before I got married... Here is how it goes....
Well: build house, get married, get career, baby 1, baby 2... ah, I think I will put that truck back together... then baby 3.. ah.. I need some money..... back on the truck.. now in a bluegrass band.. what??...

Time goes fast... way too fast.. I am just so glad i finally got paint on mine last weekend.. If I can just get everything all buffed and back together before Thanksgiving....

At the moment the 61 is sitting behind a pile of home improvment projects. Painting the house comes first along with some new windows,gutters and what ever else we find that needs to be done. The good news the rear fenders are at the body shop getting some much needed body work.

got my 62 fleetside last year and went whole hog on her all winter(that's the time to work on trucks in florida) took it completely apart and sandblasted and primered EVERYTHING..then,ran out of money. good thing i got fishing to keep me busy. the good news is my child support ends this december WOOHOO! back to the truck.

look at the cab mounts they are problably shot also my advice is to buy new rockers inner and outer and buy the cab mounts much easier to work with usually these trucka are rustyh past the new rocker,so splice in new metal there buy the floor panels if they are rusty to this will take time to repair so dont be in a hurry cab mounts and rocker panels are very reasonabletimbuk

Just got a 66 fleet shorty in July...probably could have taken some short cuts and drove rest of year before winter, but thought I'd get a jump on redoing. I'm not going to totally restore...truck is probably at least 90% solid, just rework cab floors, couple other spots, update interior some. freshen/spruce up the 283. Everything is almost completely apart, except lifting off cab. The hardest thing I've had to overcome was getting used to the fact that this is not going to be something that will be done in a couple months, like when I did my bikes. A longer more time consuming process. 66 Shorty
