I want to have my '53 half ton painted the original INTERIOR Pearl Beige. Trouble is, I have no way to show my painter what the color looks like. All my original paint is gone-even on the door panel interiors and elsewhere. I know the paint was made by dupont, and have numbers, but what good is that for the shop if they have their own paint source??? HELP!!

What type of help do you want? You have a Dupont code, would a Ditzler/PPG color code or formula help? If you want a paint chip, interior paint chips are either non-existent or very rare.

Is your interior paint gone because you removed the paint? I have found good non-faded paint on parts of the lower seat frames.

Did you see your original paint before it was removed?

I had chip charts going back to the late 60's & while formulas were provided, none showed the interior colors by way of a color chip. Any paint jobber should have a cross reference to convert your Dupont formula to whatever brand they use. Have you checked the steering column drop (where it bolts to the bottom of the dash)? Often the paint will be good enough to use as a reference in places like that when it's trash elsewhere. I assume they still used drops in '53.

Would you let us know if the color you find is a plain beige color? The reason I ask is that Pearle Beige is a 1954/55 interior color. Sheen Gray Metallic was supposedly the 1953 standard cab color. However, odd things happened at the factories, especially at the beginning and end of calendar (and/or model) years.

I believe PPG 27467 Graphite Brown Metallic is the correct color for AD interiors. Any paint store can mix it for you. If you wish you can even buy the color by the quart from the bigger parts suppliers.

Graphite Brown Metallic might be the color that J.D. is looking for, but I do not think that color was used for all Advance-Design years.

There were at least 3 different interior colors during the Advance-Design years: 1947-1949, 1950-1953, and 1954-55st (see below).

The 1954/55 Advance-Design trucks had Pearl Beige or Pulsar Gray as the standard and deluxe interior colors (in addition, 4 two-tone interior options were available late 1954 and 55-12st series Advance-Design trucks).

This matter is still not clear to me, either, Denny Graham has helped us the most with the modern color for interiors prior to 1954.

A tricky aspect of this is that "break" between 49 and 50 was not "clean" - people have reported the pre and post interior colors being used in post and pre years.

Furthermore, dublenaught has posted above that his cab has Pearl Beige paint - a 1954 color according the GM. However, it seems that just about anything is possible when it comes to truck plants switching from the old paint to the new paint (they switched whenever the old paint ran out, it seems).

Well fellas, I got the correct "Pearl Beige" that you all say is correct for the 54/55. It does not, in fact, match up with the 55 year old square inch of paint that I found adjacent to the column clamps. It is close, but not the same. I am left to wonder if it is a "fading factor", some other beige color, or something else. Anyway, I do like the Pearl beige and I am going to be using it next week anyway. My truck has the '54 235 engine, so it's not original anyway. Thanks for all your info.
