I just recently bought another 46' chevy truck and the gentalman that I bought it from gave me a long bed steel bottom bed. I thought it was an add-on, but on closer inspection the steel floor is from the factory. What I don't know is when did chevy starte putting steel floors in older model trucks and 2 where there any 40's-50's model beds that had steel in them from the factory. Mabe special order or something. I am going to get some pics of the bed up this week on my photobucket page, hopefully you fella's and gals can help figure out what I have. O and another pice of the puzzel is that the bed has a GMC tailgate.

GMC used a steel bottom bed from 1939 through 1946. Chances are it is a gmc bed. The 39 longbed would only have 2 stake pockets per side, 1940-46 would have 3 pockets/side. All of these beds would be 48.5 inches wide.

I just put a GMC steel bed on my 1946 GMC [conversion from a utility bed - non-original]. The bed is corrugated - a series of shallow "U" shaped corrugations. There are some pictures of the bed on my picture link.

Thanks a lot fella's. I have figured out that the bed is off a GMC 40s model truck. It is a long bed that has 3 stake pockets.
