I'm looking for pics of authentically restored chassis, factory pics or any other info on art deco chassis. Regrettably, I did not do a very careful inspection of my truck's chassis before sandblasting it. However, I did make several observations:
The rear axle assembly was assembled including the brake drums and axle saddles and was then painted. This results in a black spot on the center of the axle flange, the inside brake backing plate surface being bare steel and the outside fasteners being painted along with it.
Most bolts and lock washers were black oxide coated. Most nuts and flat washers were bare. The spring shackles were bare. The shackle carriage bolts had what seems to be cadmium plating or possibly some other silvery plating. The brake shoes and various arms and levers attached to them were cadmium plated. The wheel cylinder attaching screws had a silvery plating. The drag link had a black oxide or possibly black phosphate coating and the end plugs were bare. The parking brake cables had a silvery plating. The three speed transmission was painted black.
I found this factory
pic on the old gmc site and it shows some very enlightening things about Advanced Design trucks, most notably that the frame rails seem to be painted and then assembled, leaving rivets and cast iron parts bare. Of course this is not an art deco truck, though.
