i'm rebuilding my carb. the accelerator pump was not working.
after soaking it, the small passage that the gas should squirt out of into the throat of the carb is plugged. i can see the outlet but can't find the inlet in the accelerator pump discharge. according to my manual it looks like the inlet is very close to the top where the spring stop is press fit. is it possible that the swaged alluminum would cover the small hole? am i looking in the right place?

i had all three brain cells firing for about 45 minutes. i figured what harm could done if carefully ground some of the swaged aluminum out with my dremel. after a few passes i poked a torch tip cleaner in from the other side and unclogged the hole.
i wonder how many years the carb was like that?

It almost sounds like something is rotten in Plymouth. I think there are factory passages that require through-drilling, then plugging. I wonder if you buzzed one of these out with your Dremel when maybe you shouldn't have.
A obviously plugged and swaged hole is meant to be plugged. It will be interesting to see how your rig runs with the new improved carburetor.
Stuart | | | | | Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 124 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2009 Posts: 124 | i am fairly sure the blocked hole is the path for the gas to enter the carb throat. i have never worked on a rochester b before but i could not find any other way for the gas to get there. by looking at the cut away in the factory manual for the truck (54 3600) the passage that was plugged is in the diagram.
it looks as though when the "t" shaped stopper was pressed into place it was pressd right on top of the exit passage.
it works fine/better. oddly, the old accelerator pump works better then the new. the new one did not put a strong stream of gas into the carb throat.
