For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 12 Apprentice | | Apprentice Joined: Aug 2008 Posts: 12 | i took a look at a semi-local junkyard today and found two appealing motors.
one is pulled already and painted blue it looks like a 235 and has the block number GM 3835911 looks like it might be out of a 53 corvette? would this be full oil pressure? maybe someone could run the numbers again for me.
the second is still in a 1954 truck maybe a 3800 it has no bed but i'm guessing it was a dump bed. the number that i got off that was either on the intake manifold or the head but i think it was off the intake manifold. is that number the same as a casting number? the number reads GM 3703570 which comes up as a full oil pressure 261ci. I'm not sure if these are correct but they do make sense. i was just wondering if someone could take a second look for me.
thanks for any help in advance, Rick | | | | | Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,557 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2005 Posts: 2,557 | 3835911 = 1953-1955 corvette 3703570 = head casting number on 1954-1957 261 engine 1951 3100 Chevrolet1951 Chevrolet Suburban CarryallImage"A house is built with boards and beams. I think that head casting number is for a 54-57 261. Jim Carter also lists it for those years' 261.
Rick,
If you are not going after that 261, I might be interested.

If the 235 is truly a '53-'55 'Vette engine, buy it and sell it to a restorer for nice tidy profit.

I have a 261 block with that casting number also. The block was purchased new in the 1970s as a replacement block. The patterns must have mixed up when that block was cast. Engine illustration. What accessories are with the 3835911 motor? Cylinder head number? As I mention above, there were other applications for that block. Are there any stamped numbers on the pad by the distributor.
Some records show 3835911: Passenger 1954-1955 Std. Trans., Mech. Cam Truck 1954-1955.1 Mech. Cam
Block 3835911 - 1954 Corvette was 150HP, maybe some 155HP?? Block 3835911 - 1955 Corvette was 155HP
During the 1954 production run, the camshaft was changed, the horsepower increased to 155.
The later design camshaft can be identified by, three dots between #5 and #6 inlet cam lobes.
Some websites list a Corvette block casting as 3701488. That casting, 3701488, is the number for the crankshaft, used in all full pressure 235 and 261 engines.
There is a block casting 3701481 for 1953-1955, 235 engine. Some sites show the 1953 Corvette used this block also.

What is the head number.
Also, are there any numbers stamped on the pad near the distributor.
