Hello,
Simple question...(I think)
I located a 235 (1955)to put in my 41 1/2 ton...will the cluth,Pressure plate, and Flywheel all fit in the 41 trans bellhousing or should I leave that behind.

Thanks,
Mike

IIRC you can use the later stuff as long as you use a 12 V starter with it. The later flywheel might have a bigger clutch and the timing ball will be in the correct location for the new engine. The other option is to use your old flywheel/clutch/starter but be aware you will not be able to use a timing light.

Mike,

If it is a 1955 first-series engine, it would have had a 6v flywheel/starter.

3733949 might be the 55-1st block casting number and 3835911 might be the casting number for a 55-2nd block. I think the engine serial number can be used to tell 1st series from 2nd series in 1955. That number/code is pressed into the block in the ledge just to the rear of where the distributor enters the block. If you fine that code/number, post it here.

Maybe someone will post better information.

Mike, You are going to want to keep your 41 bellhousing, clutch and flywheel. Here's the reason why. The 41-46 trucks have the clutch/ brake pedals in one assembly that bolts directly to the bellhousing plus connection points for the emergency brake. So since you have to use your 41 bell housing you'll need the clutch and flywheel to go with it. You can use your 6v starter even if you change over to 12v it won't hurt anything.

This is a pretty easy swap for your truck. You will need to address the water pump length, but if you check out the links you'll find plenty of info on that.

Good Luck
George

A 1941 flywheel will not work on 1942-62 engines. They use 3/8" retaining bolts and have a larger center pilot hole.

Hello,
Thanks for the info.
This will help minimize dispointment dragging the wrong combonations home.
Although this is becoming increasingly more interesting...learning and sorting through piles of iron...I think I feel a bug bitting...ha
