Chasing down an exhaust leak, I've got the manifolds off of my 292. After addressing the broken studs and such, I attempted to reassemble only to find that the exhaust manifold does not want to line up with the bolts and guide pins. It is as if the manifold is bowed down in the center.

I headed down to my local junkyard where there is a 250 motor that they will be yanking the manifolds from.

They are interchangeable, eh?

been there done that, as they say. yes the 250 will work as long as it's the style that unbolts from the head. i got some good advice about actually looking for a 250 since the 292 ones are usually warped on the board here. later ones have 3 bolt exhust older ones have just 2, so it you don't want to have any muffler shop work- look out. some of the 292's on big trucks used the 2 1/2" dump but yours prob isn't that- if it is i'll take it off your hands. grin

No problems with the 2 bolt exhaust flange, checked that when I eyeballed the part, no need for muffler work {I'd do it myself anyways!}

They'll be pulling it from a Chevy stepvan so I can install it in my Grumman!

'Preciate the advise!

Sometimes things go my way. Got the new manifolds home, the junkyard didnt bother to ONLY sell me the exhaust side, so I got both. Quick check of the gasket seal between the In and Ex witha spray of carb cleaner, good! Go to remove the stub of the exhaust pipe they cut, took the nuts off with my fingers!

Mounted it all up and hit the ignition, comparable silence to the racket of before, all is well!
