The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Paint and Body Shop "56 paint code question

I just bought a '56 short bed big window from the 2nd owner. It was originally bought new by Riverside County as a maintenance vehicle. The truck is Omaha orange and the trim tag has 234E for the paint code. Below the 234E is the number 730. The Dupont color library verifies the 234E for Omaha orange but only says that the 730 is a combination number. The top of the truck is painted white and where it's faded you can see orange underneath. It looks like the top could have been painted by Riverside county but it's hard to tell. Does the 730 mean it was 2 tone from the factory?

yes, 730 would indicate the 2nd color .... and I'd expect the combination's 2nd color would be put on a cab already painted completely with the 1st color, as they were ordered, and back then any govt truck would be ordered in their colors

Thanks Bill. I sent some pictures to the editor. I'm not sure I like the white roof. I was thinking of doing it all orange and painting the wheels white with chrome caps.

The Dupont color sheet for 1956 indicates that 730 is the color "combination" code for a solid Omaha Orange exterior. 742 was the color combination code for Omaha Orange as the lower color, with Arabian Ivory as the upper color (the only upper color used with Omaha Orange as a lower color).
