I was under my recently acquired '49 5 window today to check and fill my differntial and found a bolt on top of the driver's side axle. It opens to reveal what appears to be a fill hole of some sort. Does anyone know what this is for?
Thanks, Rich  | | |

It allows air to escape when the gears are spining and oil is thrown around. The volumn of air changes. This way there is no pressure on seals. Kind of like our ........never mind. It is threaded, 1/4" NPT if I remember. It should come out for cleaning.
