I am going to keep the 235 ci engine that came in the truck. I want to be able to reach high way speeds in this truck. I was think a t-5 transmission out of a 1985 older s-10 with a macchnical speedo but what kind a rearend that would match with a 3.3:1 gear ratio.

A mid 60's 1/2 ton rear end up to about '69 will be the right width and can be found with gears as highway friendly as 3.08.
Though it will need spring perch work...which is minor in my opinion.

If you don't care about keeping six lugs in the rear, there are many 5 lug car rear options.

The way I see it, you only have 2 choices... 4.11 stock or 3.55 aftermarket. Swapping out transmissions and moving to an open driveline will give you more options. You are pretty much limited by the torque tube.

If you have the truck 4 speed (SM420) you can easily convert to open driveline by swapping out the rear bearing retainer and u-joint from a later model. Trucks 1 ton and heavier from '48 up also have open drivelines.

Ok I can see this is going to be a problem to meet my speed goals and keep original three or four spped tranny. I want to go highway speeds of today so what rear end and manual transmission do you recommend thta will adapt with my 235 ci engine to meet these goals
