Those bolts shouldn't need any real attention to detail, just tighten the heck out of them.

Generally, if a torque spec isn't handy, I take up the slack so the parts are clamped together, then advance the bolt head about one flat. (1/6 turn) That seems to work well, no matter what diameter the bolt is. Jerry

The rotation method is a good guideline except for bolts with a very short grip length, like a flywheel bolt. The bolt stretch and preload can very sensitive to the rotation for a very short bolt. Your question has been answered, so this is a moot point. Every fastener has a torque specification that is based on its size, thread configuration and tensile strength. If you are given this info, you can come up with a torque spec.
The thing to note is that many bolted components aren't sensitive to torque values, you just stick them together, oink the bolt down and you are good to go. The cylinder head is sensitive to not only torque but also torque sequence. The bellhousing to engine connection isn't particularly sensitive to torque, hence the suggestion to "Give 'em a good grunt!".
If you have a torque spec, a torque wrench and want to take the time, by all means do it. As you become more familiar with the machine, you will learn what needs this drill and what doesn't. That's how I see it.
