I am trying to do one on a 53 COE, and the original brackets don't want to line up. The old vaccum unit worked sort of. Choke cable is in the way and runs into the motor. No problems. I did have to buy new arms and blades for the new unit.
I can not remember but, I think my unit came from brothers out in Ca.
But, I also got things from Jim Carter. I Know they sell the same kit.
The only issue is I don't like the dash knob as it dont look original. I may try to modify it.
There can be a chance they sent you one for another type of truck?

I believe they are different '54-'55 1st than '47 - '53. Is it possible you have one for the wrong year?
I have a Newport Engineering setup in my '55 1st GMC Suburban. After a little adjustment when I first put it in it has worked great for 7 years now.

It's a universal, electric, two speed, flex shaft wiper drive, guaranteed for life, $265.00. Specifies over the windshield OR under the cowl. Motor can go behind a kick panel if desired. Yes, there is a difference in the kits. I believe the one American Classic sells is the generic unit and the other is for a truck with the choke cable in the stock location. Both are shown for the 47-53 trucks. Too bad I didn't start the conversion sooner-- bought the one I have several months ago and haven't had much luck dealing with anyone at Classic. Guess I'll get one direct from Newport. Again, thanks for the help. | | |
