My heater valve is leaking on my 58 gmc. Is the only option to replace it with a new one? I do not think that I need the thermostatically controlled valve like the one that is there now.
I was thinking of a plumbing valve under the hood for the little amount I would need it.
Is there after market valve from NAPA that could be used that would have the mount for the cable and be installed in the heater box?
Thanks

Lindsay

If the valve is leaking due to a bad seal, this might help.

you could also get this kind of valve, cable operated for temp control [prolly at NAPA], and keep the potential leaks outta the cab grin

Indeed... If I were you, I'd just send the thing in for rebuilding. It's just not worth the effort.

I've tried in vain several times to find that same valve. If anyone has a source for it, I'd really appreciate it.

Look up Item#: BK 6601140 at napas online site.
This heater control valve fits 1972-1980 International scout.

Get on ebay and do a search on heater control valve, this will give you an idea what types are available. There are some Volkswagen heater control valves that look similar.

oooh! I see a get rich scheme appearing! grin I'll get the part number/source next time I talk to the guy, I'm sure it's off the shelf local, don't turn blue, might not be til next week thumbs_up

for the TF trucks [Chevy anyway, maybe GMC], an exact replacement comes from older Volvos, but I prefer a simpler manual control under the hood

As long as it has holes or brackets that can be mounted to the inner fender and provisions for a cable I'll be happy. I'd just as soon bypass my Ranco and get it over with.

they don't have mounting provisions built on, they're positioned by the hose they clamp into, so you could attach the hose either side of the valve, but it's not necessary, the one I linked above on my buddy's panel truck never moves, works slick

if you want to repair the original, classic parts(KC MO) will rebuild yours, takes a few days, bowtie bits(wichita ks), will either rebuild yours, or swap you your core for a new one. I have actually worked with both, and had success with both.

Just to be sure... Just put the hoses on, attach the cable and it works so smoothly that you don't have to secure it to anything? That's cool if it does.
