I think I know what all of these holes are for but, I thought someone could lable them for me and it might be useful later on. Anyone with any suggestions are welcome. oops I just noticed two h's sorry little h and big h.

H- a hole for the generator bracket bolt
F- those three are for the side engine mounts
B&E I think are the oil send and return for a filter
h- is the hole for the bellcrank stud
D- thats a drain plug for the water jacket

Thats the best I can do, hope it helps!

A=port to oil sump-this is used for the bypass style oil filter

B=oil pump output-directly above B port is the pin that you have to drive in to block the internal passage, thus directing all the oil pump's output to this port

C=plug for water jacket-I'm not sure what it is for

D=drain plug for water jacket

E=oil galley inlet port--oil leaving port B goes into a full flow oil filter-the filtered oil leaves the filter and enters the engine's oil galley at this point

F=side motor mount bosses

G=not sure

H=this is where the throttle linkage pivots. A special bolt screws into this hole and allows a stamped steel pivot to transfer movement from the gopedal to the carb.

C is for an alternate throttle pivot, depending on which vehicle you are putting the block into.

I don't think my 261 block has holes drilled in G.

My two late-model 261 engines(full-flow filter engines) have the two bosses at G, but only one has the bosses drilled and tapped. One of the blocks does not have either the A or C holes. It does not appear that anything had ever been attached to the G holes. My 1954 261 block does not have the G bosses at all. The rest of the holes on my engines are as ApacheFiend and Racecarl described.

My 1960 and 1959 261s have both holes G. They were not used but they are threaded. I use those holes to hold a full-flow remote, spin-on oil filter head to the block.

I do not understand Racecarl's reference to a by-pass filter being used with a 58-62 block. If you do not use a full-flow system on 58-62 blocks (and never moved the pin/diverter-plug) does a by-pass filter work on the 58-62 blocks?

Tim, I am playing around with mounting my remote filter on my 261. I didn't see a pic on your great site. When you have the time would you post or email a pic of your filter set up? Thanks in advance.

Drew,

I only have one photo of full-flow, remote-filter-head mounting plate on my 1960 261 (not yet listed on my web site).

Tim,

Those pictures are great. I like the location of your remote spin-on filter. Did you fabricate those lines or did you have them done? Also, I don't have the throttle pivot bolt and bell crank, do you know where I might locate one of these? I sure wish I was as dedicated to documentation and Blogging as you are. Sites like yours are like gold to me. Thanks.

The hose and fittings were bought from Summit Racing. I made up the lines (with a little help from my friends) and they are very short. There was not much flexibility in the lines over that short a distance.

Place a Want Ad in the Swap Meet for the pivot bolt and bell crank.

Tim,Thanks! I hadn't thought of just making an offset bracket for the mount. I am temporarily using square tube aluminum over the same two mounting holes to mount the fiter adapter. My engine is still in a cradle as I haven't completed the exhaust system,but when it's ready to be installed I'll check my clearances and see if your idea can work for me.
