The gravel shield on the front bumper on the older models is the piece that goes between the bumper and the grill. I have never heard of a gravel shield on the rear, but I guess one could be fabricated to fill the void between the bumper and the box.

For some of us. We will put a "Mud FLAP" just before the rear bumper between the rear wheel and bumper.

This could be a protector of that era. as it would prevent rocks from hitting your bumper?

??? Someone here may have a truck of that age and can compare.

Good luck

There's one being marketed for ADs but there never was one from the factory. I suppose they could be making one for the 60s models too. I don't know if they had one originally or not but I doubt it.

On 1960 thru 1966 some models came with a piece of plastized rubber like material to keep the mud and rocks from chipping the paint on the bumper. It was a special order part. My Dads 1962 had it. It kept most of the dust, dirt or mud, gravel from hitting the bumper tailgate area. After becoming brittle it cracked and broke out so dad took the rest of it off.

Can you give us a link?
'50s GM cars had a rubber flap that ran the width of the vehicle, between the tail panel and the bumper. It kept dust and grime from getting up between the bumper and the panel. There was a U-channel stamped into the panels, and the bottom of the back of the quarter panels, the rubber went into it from the top, and the channel was crimped closed/pinched with a hammer to hold the rubber in place.

My '62 Suburban has a similar rubber seal, though it uses a sheetmetal strip that screws to the tail panel, sandwiching the gasket between it and the body.

Installed, the rubber goes toward the sky, and is folded over to tuck up behind the bumper. It doesn't just hang down.
