This truck will be a daily driver, but while I am replacing some of the floor pan, I would like to treat and paint some of the exposed frame parts. Unless you plan to strip your frame down that's not what you want.
Just use what is tried and proven to work... POR15 or (my favorite) Rust Encapsulator from Eastwood. I have tried POR 15, too expensive for the mess and toxicity. I might give the Rust Encapsulator a try.

It's not as expensive, it's lacquer based which means clean up is a snap and you can thin it and spary it and just keep what you don't use for another time. HERE is an interesting side-by-side comparison of the two products. There are people here who swear by both products. | | |
