I tried that site before I posted the question and couldn't get to it either. What was left of paint on the engine was blue in some places and orange in others. basicly, orange was the color of the car V8 - gray for light trucks, green for heavy trucks [usually w/ governors] - in 57 the 283 was gray, yellow, green, black, orange depending on options - couple years in mid 60's 283 and 327 both orange in car or truck, then back to 283 gray, 327 green and the gray became bluish gray with nearly all truck engines the blue/gray
yer 66 should be the blue/gray, kruiz

I want this truck to look good and original as possible, but it will not be a full retoration, I plan to keep it as a daily driver so it will have some newer conviences. They had a 283 painted up in Packard green or some such thing and they highlighted the Chevrolet valve cover script in silver. It was non-stock but professionally done and the results were awesome. It's all good, you know. Imagine looking under the hood of some dark colored truck and being hit in the face with a fire-red smallblock!
