The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Making a Stovebolt Bed Reinforcement Strip??

I have had my bed apart on my 59 short Fleetside long enough, I don't remember exactly where the reinforcement strip went. I know it goes between the 2'nd and 3'rd cross-sills. I have two options between the wheel wells that will align with the holes in the wear strips none of which are centered between the cross sills though the wheel wells do have a hole in the center of the span. Would it be correct to use the holes closer to the rear or the front or should I actually have two of them to utilze both sets of holes?

A picture might better explain my question. The picture shows the one I have installed in the rear set of holes but I'm not sure it's correct.

Thats what I thought but the replacement wear strips have no holes there. The only holes it could hit would be one on each of the wheel well flanges if it were in the center. Maybe some holes were ommited on the new new wear strips but all the other holes are where they need to be.

I remembered I have a plan recorded from when I took apart a fleet bed - I have it that the short bar goes with the 2nd bolt from the front on the wheel wells, not centered

After taking some measurements on the frame, that makes sense. Leaving it as I have it in the picture wil put it very close to the hump in the frame rails over the axle, if not touching. There is slightly more clearance on the forward set of holes. I'll move it before I mount the bed.
