I've had to let my 47 bowtie sit for two years, but now i'm retired and can get back on it full time. it's got a 1966 283 3 speed, because of my shoulder i'm wanting to go automatic tranny, if i remember right the 283 bolt pattern was standard for chevy v-8s? so can i get a late 80's or newer auto with O/D to bolt up to it, I did do a search in this forum, but came up empty handed.

Yes. The 700-4R trans. has o-drive & fits the standard chev bolt patern. The late 80's early 90's is the best one to use. Make sure your flywheel will bolt up to the converter. The 200-4R is a lighter duty trans but will stand up to a 283. It is shorter & might fit better.

They say money can't buy happiness. It can buy old Chevy trucks though. Same thing.
