For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 1,181 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2001 Posts: 1,181 | I've been able to get a set of double groove pulley's that are for my '60 GMC The upper pulley (waterpump) simply bolts on with no problem. However, the lower double groove pulley has to be attached to the crank shaft (which to you press on the shaft as normal) How would I go about removing the factory single grove and replacing it with the double groove? Anybody done this before? Here is the webshots link for the pictures. http://good-times.webshots.com/album/569867634SqCRUHThe forsy pictures is the oem single I need to remove off the shaft ans replace with the double groove in the the pictures. Go to AutoZone and rent a puller, tell them you want to pull the harmonic balancer off the crankshaft. They will rent/lend you the tool.It bolts to the holes on the balancer/pulley and there is a bolt in the center that pushes against the cranksaft and pulls the pully off the crankshaft. If the crankshaft has threads on the inside you put a bolt in there and it will pull the new pulley back on the crankshaft. Before you start look to see if there is a bolt holding the pulley to the crankshaft in the center, if so remove it then install the puller.

I has been so long since I had fooled with the harmonic balancer I had forgot that the pulley is simply pressed down and THEN held in place by 6 5/8" bolts. I feel like a DOPE.
I simply used a large flat blade screw driver and popped off the single groove, pressed down the double groove and incerted the new bolts.
I must be geting too old for this stuff.
