The part in question is a 55 2nd series hood emblem. An online chromer quoted me $100 to $125. Not overly alarming but thought I'd see if I could find a benchmark here.

That includes stripping the old chrome, filling rust pits, repairing any breaks, etc.. The price quoted on the web or over the phone will often come down upon personal inspection by the chromer if there isn't any major repair required. Diversified Plating on OKC quoted almost $500 over the phone for my center hood strip, hood bird and wiper trannys. After they got the parts & inspected them the price dropped to under $300 including return shipping.

The price you mentioned seems fair given that they have seen the emblem and know what they have to do. Actually it seems quite fair if you have seen some of their work and know they will stand behind their work. My hood emblem was pitted, not real bad, but it took some work, and the cost was $100. One of my taillights (pot metal) was pretty bad with pitting. It had to be run through 3 times to get it right and that cost $125. They probably could have charged more, but they bid it that way , and they honored their bid. Good guys. Good luck with your hood emblem.
