A passenger car 235 from around 1960 would most likely have hydraulic lifters, while a truck engine would most likely have mechanical lifters.
The best way to determine haydraulic/mechanical is to look at the lifters. The next best way is to find and post here the block casting number (on the block at the upper right of the starter motor - sometimes hard to see) and/or the engine "serial number/ID", which is pressed into the block on a ledge to the rear of the distributor.
If my locations for codes are wrong, or if there is a better way to answer your question, someone will most likely let us know,

All 235 blocks from '56 up were drilled for hydraulic lifters. So, over the years, the original ones could have been replaced. It may take a little work, but I would pull one to remove all doubt, because hydraulics won't work with a solid cam, and solids won't work with a hydraulic cam.

Remove the valve cover, and get a valve close to fully closed. Clamp a pair of vise grips on the rocker arm, and exert a firm, steady pressure toward the pushrod for a couple of minutes. If the lifter is hydraulic, the clearance between the rocker arm and the valve stem will slowly increase until there's about a 1/8" gap above the valve stem. As soon as the engine is re-started, the lifter will pump up to zero clearance again. Jerry
