We have the 350 and 4-speed transmission from a 70/C20. What transmission is this likely to be and does it have a synchronised 1st gear? Where do I look for numbers for ID? Last but not least, how well will this fit into our 56/3200 along with the the 350? Being that the 3200 is long bed/wheelbase, does it need a 2 piece driveshaft or what?

It is not sycro. in 1st gear But is a rugged trans. It should fit right in if you use the bell housing with it. If you are switching from a 6 cyl you will need the front mount brackets. Chevy duty has a complete kit. A little expensive but is complete. I have a 55 3200 & it uses a 1 piece driveshaft. You will brobably have to have the driveshaft modified to fit.

They also have seals and such. http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/transmission_gateway.htm If your truck had the 4 speed, it will be no problem putting in the sm465. It's bigger and heavier than the sm420, which should have been what was in your truck. Either tranny will bolt to the bell housing for the sm465. I like the sm420 better, mainly because it will shift faster. Two piece shafts are recommended for the long bed, but not mandatory.
