I am in need of a picture of the link that goes from the accelerator pedal to the pivot on the engine for my 1958 Chevy. The home made unit I have just ain't quite cutting it. 261 six in place of the original 235 but the set up should be the same.

Since my 96 Chevy died, got to revive ole blue while I make repairs on the newer truck. (Needed an excuse to drive it again anyway)

If you still have the 235, is the post for the linkage bell-crank (pivot) in the same location on the side of both blocks (235 and 261)?

I beleive the bell crank is in the same location, but the original 235 disappered years ago. I got home one day and someone decided they wanted it for the scrap price it was bringing. It was long gone when I came across this 261 to place in my truck.

I have the bell-crank and the linkage from it to the carb, but I had to fabricate a rod from the crank to the accelerator. (And it don't work real well).

I have looked locally for another, but not found any 235's in a long time around here. May be time to make a road trip to some other wrecking yards.

I have found this Universal Throttle Rod to work well when the bell-crank is located closer to the middle of the block than it is located in earlier 235s.

Thanks tclederman, that looks like it would work well from the bell crank to the carb, but the one I am having trouble with goes from the gas pedal to the bell crank. Binds going through the floor. Doesn't set quite right on the backside of the pedal.

I will keep trying to tweek this one to see if I can make it work better. I was hoping to find a pic to give me a better idea what it originally looked like.

If your cab mounts are saged it will cause binding. Ive got a set of linkage at the shop. Ill get a photo tomorrow.

Thanks wrendbender. No big hurry on it, I have a few other things to do to get it road worthy again. The truck looks like it sits properly, I think it is my feeble efforts at fabricating this with nothing to look at.

I think it needs a little more angle (or curve) but not real sure which way to go.

Hey Roy,
I got a 235 from a 54' as well. Picts would not help you as the foot feed was as twisted as a piece of bailn' wire on a fence post. I have added a link to my 2X2 install. The bell crank is what came on the motor. I changed the linkage rod to 5/16" and put L & R heim joints on to help ease adjustment.
For the foot feed I put a heim on it as well but had to spot weld a larger bracket on the backside of the pedal because of the 5/16 heim. A 1/4" rod might not require that mod. The one that came on the truck had just a small 90 on it with a washer and cotter pin (bailing wire).
Hope this helps. I tried to keep with the original idea of mechanical linkage.
