The TH350 or TH400 is a popular choice if you want to go auto.
There are a lot of folks supplying motor mounts for this swap.
Some are putting in a tubular crossmember for the engine mounts.

Check the archives. You'll find a ton of information on this subject. I would suggest if you plan on running an auto tranny you get one with an overdrive; mine is a 700R4 beefed up for 330 horse.

53flatbed: I'm not sure what the difference is in the half ton vs the 3/4 ton but you may want to take a look at my photobucket link below. I have a few pics in there showing the mounts I used and which I like since there is no cross memeber. Take a peek and see if it will help on your 3/4 ton.

I'd rather walk and carry a Chevy hub cap than ride in a Ferd.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you smile

I just dropped a '74 350 w/auto tranny into my '48 panel. http://thumb9.webshots.net/t/52/752/5/50/6/2061550060094727889sYDZfp_th.jpg It's a tight fit and I cut out part of the frame to accomodate the existing mount. I'll use the steering column for the shift mechanism.

Well we installed a chevy 400 in my 3/4 ton and left the striaght axle. ad to install hugger headers and move the steering box 2" to the left. we used the rear motor support from the 235 and modifed it and used it for the front motor supports. i used a 74 nova rear transmission support for the rear and bolted it into place, had to cut about 1" off on each side. used a lokar shifter and works great, got to deal with the low gear rear end so i can go 60 with low rpm's

How did you move the steering box to the left 2 inches. I am placing a 350 sbc in my 1951 chevy 1.2 ton and I am having the same problem with the steering box being withing 1/4 inch the engine plugs.

We used the existing steering box and he welded a bracket to the side of the frame to mount the box too. we cut a small slot to the left of the steering column to alingn the column straight. gona change column sometime. had pleny of room. had to heat up and bend the control arm so it would move correctly. drives and handles great. i put a steering wheel from a 74 nova and it looks better and does not change the effort it takes to turn the steering wheel. send email and i will send some pictures if you would like
