I don't know if I'am posting this in the right place, so if I'am not could someone tell me. I have a 51 GMC 3/4 ton with the fresh air heater.I had the heater controlvalve rebuilt and I'am starting to put the dash and dash related stuff together. But I also bought one of the fiberglass firewall pads. Nice piece,but hard to work with, Lots of hole's to cut and everyone is turning into a chore. My question is should I mount the heater controlvalve with the pad between the valve and the firewall or cut out and mount it right to the firewall metal? I have a 1951 Chevy accessories installation manual and on page 37, figure 99 it shows the valve on the pad and the screws comming from the outside in,and the capilary tube screwed into the dash mat. I didn't have enough of the old firewall pad left to tell. Any sugestions and insights would be appreciated. Thanks Jimmy

Your description is the way I installed this style of heater in my 54 Suburban.

Tim thats the manuel I have. Did you mount the valve on the pad or cut the pad and mount it to the metal?
