I have a 49 chevy ½ ton PU. I put a TCI mustang suspension with drop spindles on the front 2 years ago.
My present rear end had the springs under the axle with 1” blocks. With the new front I had too much rake. I took my springs off and found out the eye holes, shackles were worn out as well as springs being gouged. I rework the springs and took some leafs out for a smoother ride.
I ended up putting 3 ½ blocks to get the rake that I wanted. Could of used more but that is all it could handle. Any how the springs are not rebounding to its full height. I tried more spring and different combinations and just not rebound to it full height. I called St Louis Spring company and they can get me new springs for $128.00 a side. He told me he could De-arch them from the original 7 “ arch and this might lower the truck more. Finally to my question: Has anyone had springs de-arched and is 3 ½ blocks any kind of a safety factor. I know there is other alternatives to lowering the truck but my budget is only around $300 to $ 400 for this

I looked at the Mono springs. There are some safety issues that has been talked about. If one breaks while driving it could result in some major problems. Besides 400 dollars for just two springs seem kind of steep. I'm still thinking about monos and putting two link bars to keep the axle in place in case they would break. Thanks for the input.

Thanks for the link. I found out that Brothers has Leaf springs
with 2,3,4,5 inch drop from the original. There on sale this month for $360.00 I ordered new shackles today and going to see if those will helps. If it don't then i will put all my leafs back on and take the blocks out and see how high the ride is. I will then go ahead and order the drop that i need. One thing did surprise me that the shackles in 2007 were $18.95 a peice and now there $38.95 Now that is inflation.

one day i am actually gonna order a set for my rear also. and will also need new front leafs, since my drivers sides, front and back, are sagging on the drivers side. either that or i lose some weight. LOL.

I have a '53 3100 I'd like to drop. I have a 3" dropped axle and I've considered dropped springs for the front and rear. Do ya'll know if these dropped springs in the rear can be used with the closed driveline?
