The 4200 uses a multitooth cam sync signal to generate cam position and cam sync to tell the PCM if its on cly's 135 are ready to fire or 246. Great if your running the GM electronics.

The lower end aftermarket ECM's usually expect a 0 or 1 signal from the cam sensor not multiple teeth and usually don't have the capability to run the VVT so I needed to do something to get the right signal. Also the adjustable cam sprockets didn't have a provision to press in the cam drive dowel pin.

So all this got fixed after I made this hub that replaces the VVT actuator and its multitooth cam signal hub:

WF;

I have been looking into this engine myself for a swap. If you "deleted" the VVT, where did you set the cams? Straight up, adv or retarded? Thanks in advance my newbie question.

My cams are custom ground for turbocharging so they will be installed with 0 overlap.

I posted the stock '06 GM cam specs on trailvoy.com a while back.

I'd leave the intake centerline where GM installed it and then install the exhaust cam on 110 to 112 centerline. If I remeber correctly the VVT at base timing puts the exhaust cam in at 124 deg centerline.
