The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop Motor Mount Bracket positions

I am installing a 700R4 in my 64 and need about 2 inches to accomodate the longer casing and tailshaft. Is it possible to move the motor mount brackets forward? There is a factory drilled hole in front of the current position, will these line up? It appears that it would move everything up about 2 inches, but need some help. Thanks.

Lyall, Someone else can probably tell you better, but I am thinking that; moving the engine foward is not the best idea.
You have clearence issues between the fan and radiator, exhaust & fuel plumbing to contend with, possibly electrical wires to contend with, and maybe other clearence issues. I think your easiest solution would be to have your drive shaft re-tubed to the length you need. Again,someone who has done this can tell you more, but you will also have transmission mounting to deal with, but I think that is an easy fix.

the foward holes are for a 292 at least on the pass side. i don't know if you can do it. i know they have different fan spacers so you could get the one you need or take out, at least on a inline six. i don't think the fuel line, usually rubber here, or wiring would be a big deal. personally, i would go with catman's idea.
