The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 235 main bearing question

I got my '59 model 235 back from the machine shop, I decided to check the main bearing clearances before I cleaned up the block, the first,second & third bearing looked great, but the rear bearing sticks up out of the block about .060, and the other half sticks out of the cap, but not as bad.
I checked the bore diameter without the bearing in it, it was 2.97 round, from what I've found on here this is the correct bore diameter.
Is it possible that its a bad bearing, They are Federal Mogul brand bearings, any ideas?

I assume you are talking about the ends of the bearing.they should be flush with the end of the cap.it might not be pushed all the way down.

Keep in mind that most parts suppliers allow customers to return parts. Therefore it is entirely possible to have someone mix up parts from two different lots and return them. That bearing should fit just like the others.
