I just purchased a 36 chevy 1/2 ton truck project. It is in the mock up stage and I need everyones help. It is currently sitting on a short bed S-10 frame that measures 108". The bed that is on it looks to be too long at 80" from end to end on the top rail. The 350 chevy engine and 700r4 trans is just sitting on the regular motor mounts without the use of the S-10 conversion brackets that I have. It looks like the engine should go back about 4" to 6" more towards the cab for the front end to be centered on the front wheels. The cab is also just sitting in place. My questions would be #1 will 108" wheel base work for the truck? #2 What is the correct length of the short bed on a 1/2 ton truck? Will what I currently have work?

Hy 36TRUCKOMYGOD, Firstly welcome, did you realize that there are actually two different 36s? The early "high cab" and the late "low cab". The wheelbase for a 36 1/2ton is 112", and I think the bed length is 72", so it looks like you've got some stretchin or shrinkin to do, hope that helps.

Thanks for the info. I hope I can make it work if I get the right bed that is shorter, and do some adjusting.

You also have a longer bed on a 37-38; I think it's 77 inches long. If you measure the height of the windshield and it is a short cab it will measure 12 inches and the bottom corners will be rounded. The high cab 36 uses doors that have 3 hinges, the short cab only uses 2 hinges.
