I have two listed as .0015 mfd @ 800 volts. I am not having any luck finding any 800 volt electrolytic. I can find orange dips at 1600 volts. Any ideas on where to find an 800 volt electrolytic.

I don't know where you would get a listing like that but you can use any type you want. Generally electrolytics have large values like 10 or 20 mfd and they are usually used as filters for the power supply.

Thanks. It is listed under the electrolytics but I thought the value was smaller that most electrolitics I have seen. It is paper with radial leads. I am going to put an orange dip in and call it good.

They do don't they. I am thinking about pulling out the HAM rig. It has been a while since I was on HF. Having my hands back in a radio has made me nostalgic. I finally ordered the reproduction knobs and such today. I will update you on how it all goes back together. I am ordering the orange dips from justradios.com they seem to be nice folks. At least they answer there emails fast.

Neil, ya gotta be reading something wrong, the only electrolytic caps in that radio would be in the PS filter. They would be rated in the 20mf to 40mf range and around 400v.

The buffer capacitor across the transformer secondary is not an electrolytic cap, that's the one with the high voltage rating and probably be something like this, .005mf or .006mf @ 1600v. That cap is critical to maintaining good vibrator health so always change that and stay as close as you can to the capacitance rating. These are available in the Orange Drops.

The Orange Drops are much more expensive than the yellow 650v polyester caps, which are very inexpensive and more than adequate to replace the “tubular” or paper cap.

Thanks Denny I replaced the buffer already. It was .006 @ 1600. What I was looking at was under electrolytic in the parts list. http://www.nostalgiaair.org/PagesByModel/495/M0022495.pdf page 21-53. It however list the buffer under the electrolytic also. I ordered the necessary parts last night. The tuner sure works better after cleaning. What are you using to lubricate the moving parts with? Is there anyway that I could get a jpg of the finished tuner that you have posted on webshots? If I had a good photo that I could scale to actual size I could measure the dial pointer and finish that up. Thanks for the help.

item 27 to 30 are not electrolytic caps even if they are listed under that heading. Just goes to show you that John F. Rider wasn't right all of the time either.
After a thourough cleaning I lubed the sliders with Lubriplate. shafts and bushings with light oil such as 3 in 1 or sewing machine oil.
Don't quite know what you want to scale on the dial? Mine is all together and installed so I can't get into the front part. Do you just want to cut the pointer off??

The pointer mount on the one that I am working on turned up and then the pointer came came back down from the top a picture is worth a 1000 words. http://good-times.webshots.com/photo/2291283390103315458YynGWM I need to lengthen the one sitting on the top of the pointer (from a 60's GMC) arm in the photo but am not sure how long it needs to be. You have a photo in your webshots of the tuner from the front after you put it back together without the bezel on it yet that shows the pointer. If I had that jpg I could scale it in photoshop to actual size by comparing it with a known distance from my tuner. Then I can get the measurement from your photo of the length of the mounting part of the pointer. I will have some perspective to compensate for but I think I can get real close. It would also give me some idea as to weather the knobs are in the correct position from top to bottom. What I need is that photo but if I download it from your webshots I can't doo anything with it. I hope this makes some sense. Thanks Neil

Be Glad to send you the original Neil but I'm gonna give ya a tip on how to get around Webshots.
Bring up the picture that you want to copy, and full screen it. Do a 'Prt Scr' print screen, you now have the image on the clipboard.
Now in Photoshop under the file menu open a 'new' image and from the edit menu 'paste' your webshots image into it.
With your 'Rectangular marquee tool' pull a box around the image and do a 'copy' from the edit menu. Open another 'new' image window and 'paste' the cropped image into it. you now have the picture only from the Webpage in to photo shop. 'Save A Copy' and you have a jpg to work with.
This is kind of a pain in the ars but it does let you copy photos from webshots.

Yeah, I been cussin' webshots out ever since they locked out the pictures so you couldn't download them last year. My daughter was over a couple of weeks ago and tipped me of the that trick.
