if im reading it right the GVW reads 25.500 does this make it a two ton or 3 ton any help would be greatly welcomed

I never really learned where they drew the line, if they ever did. But I would guess that you have a 2 1/2 Ton.

A 25,500 is a good heavy truck. You seem a little unsure. Is the 25,500 clearly stamped on the tag? Also there is GVW and GCVW which is Gross Combined Vehicle Weight (Truck with pulling a trailer rating).

IT MAY BE THAT THATS THE LIMIT OF FULL WEIGHT OF THE TRUCK ITS LIGHT WEIGHT IS AROUND 9800LBS BUT IV PUT LOADS ON IT UP TO 22K AND IT HANDLED IT JUST FINE

The GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight) means the weight of the truck and the carrying capacity total. If the truck weighs 9800, which sounds about right, the carrying capacity would be 15,700 (if the GVW is actually 25,500).

Let us know when you find out for sure.

By the way, I checked out some pictures. It is an interesting truck. It looks like you have a 6-292 in there. What trans does it have? Is the rear a single speed or 2-Speed? Just to shoot the breeze a little, I used to own a '62 GMC 4000, 305 V-6, 4-Speed (GVW 19,500) and I used to drive a '62 GMC 6500, 478 V-6, 5-Speed, 2-Speed (GVW 32,000).

i replaced the rear with a 73mod because i cant find wheel cyclenders for the 62 its a elec 2 speed i am finding out that when one of you nice guys ask about something you want to know all there is to know so il have to check on what gear ratios it is and get back with you on that plus that helps me to understand my truck better oh and its a 5 speed trans il try to get the make n mod for ya thanks agin perry

the GVW is 19500 i looked at it wrong so iv been over loading it il have to watch that next time

The rating of 19,500 is pretty much typical for a C-60. If the truck does weigh 9,800 as you mentioned earlier, you can legally carry 9,700, which is almost 5 Ton. ...not bad.

If you are able to, try to take some more weight off the truck. I took a bunch of unnecessary stuff off my '68 C-30 that was on there when I first got it. It weighed about 6700 back then. I hope to get it down to somewhere around 6000.
