I have a Yankee Turnflex 730/6 in my '49 1/2-ton. The unit is wired up, and all turn signals and flashers are working properly. A unit similar to mine can be found under e-Bay Item # 120356784246.

The unit includes a small indicator light which flashes with the signals. The indicator light seems to be working properly because it flashes when the signal switch is activated. However, when all signals are OFF, the indicator light burn steadily. In other words, the indicator light is always ON, except it begins to flash when I move the signal arm left or right. Is this the way this unit is supposed to work?? I would think the indicator light should only light up when the signal switch is activated. headscratch

Are you using a three prong flasher? If so, do you have the indicator wired to the same terminal as the signal lamps? "L" is for load and "P" is for pilot light. If you have the pilot light and load wired to "L" it would cause this problem.

I'm using a two-prong flasher. The indicator and the signal lamps are wired from the load prong. Would switching to a 3-prong flasher solve this problem??

Yep. Just wire the hot lead to "X", signal lamps to "L" and the pilot light to "P".

Good advice. It worked. But it took me two tries. The first time, I incorrectly assumed that any generic 3-prong flasher would work. Not true. I returned the first flasher, and installed one labeled "X", "L", "P". I don't understand the difference, but at least it's working. Thanks.
