The T5 I have came out of an 85 Camaro V8. Granted it was a 305 but they were also used behind 350's in Camaro/Firebird and I believe Corvettes. If your not too crazy on the horsepower you should be OK.

The T5 has a limit of 300 lb-ft when it is the V8 Camaro or V8 Mustang transmission. Here is the TTC page on the T5 http://www.ttcautomotive.com/English/products/T-5.asp#CarIf you want heavier duty 5-speed, the NV3500 would be a better candidate than a T5 and fit without modifications. The NV3500 was found behind 4.6 V6's and 305's. ZF transmissions were behind the 350's in the 1/2T from 88 to mid 90's then the NV4500 was used

It has been discussed many times in these posts. I run one behind a 350 & it works fine. As long as a guy doesn't do burnouts or speed shifts I think it will last from now on out. It is the perfect way to deal with the low rear end gearing of these old trucks. A lot easier then putting in an automatic & much more fun to drive.
