Has anyone ordered the bias ply tires from Jim Carter, and if so, do you recommend?

I would just look up Coker Tire. Corky Coker supplies almost all of the aftermarket dealers,possibly JC too.

One thing to keep in mind, vintage type tires are going to be pricey, regardless who you get them from.

Jim Carter sells 6.5 x 16's in their 47-54 catalog from specialty tires of America. They say they're 4 ply rated for 1/2 tons.

Longbox is dead on. Buying a set of any vintage tire costs enough to retire the national debt......well maybe I exaggerate just a bit.

I do sell vintage Tires and I sell them to club members etc between the retail and what I pay for them. The problem for example is I sold a tire for 145 retail and my cost is 130. There is no Profit. and this was a tire from Coker. I will sell the tires between that price If I know you from one of these sites but, I don't make a living off the tires. I do know Coker TOLD me this past week that after the 1st the Pricing will go up 7% Now what NO one can tell me is does that effect the dealer pricing as well. I don't promote their tires because if I list a set on ebay for example. just the fees alone take what I would get in profit.

Coker owns all the american tire brands as well as some from outside of the Usa except GOODYEAR. Goodyear makes their own tires.

All Suppliers like me all buy from Coker. If I was able to buy a very large amount of Tires they said They would give me a better price. But, That to is not much.

Most Companies will Sell a tire over the Retail that Coker sells at. and they will not tell you where they get them from. but, those who shop around will find Coker.

I ship all my tires straight from Coker Shipping department so that I don't need to charge for the extra shipping. so, This savings is passed along.

If someone needs a tire just drop me a line. I can see what I can do on pricing but, Like I say. Coker has a high price even for their dealers.

I hear you on that, Psac. We can get Goodyear vintage tires where I work (Kelly-Springfeild handles the vintage lines for Goodyear), but in the 16 years I've worked there, we havent sold the first set. Prices are rather high, and no one wants to spend that much for them. I think we might actually run higher than Coker even. I priced a set of 6.70-15 6 ply blackwalls for mine once, $180 per tire. And that was several years ago.

I have the these tires from Jim Carters. I've put maybe six hundred miles one them over the course of a year and have had no problem with them. They look good, ride well and I didn't have to sell a kidney to buy them. I can't tell you anythibg about their milage though. They should last forever at the rate I use them! Just make sure that the installer takes all the paper tags off the inside of the tire before put in the inner tubes. My guy left one paper tag in there, and it was enough to rub thru the inner tube and leave me with a flat.

Alot of the national tire chains won't do tube type tires just because of stuff like that. since you don't see tube type tires on passenger vehicles (or commercial vehicles for that matter), the younger tire busters don't really know how to properly handle them. We recently adopted a "no tube type tires" policy, and haven't done splits for years (no cage).

Google: Diamond Back Classics. Very nice product. I've got a set on my truck. I bought Coker's, was unhappy with the way they looked. I sold them and got these!

I've got a set of Coker's that are at least 20 years old. Now mind you, these tires don't have a lot of miles on them but show very little wear or rot. They spent about 12 years in the attic - so guess that helps.

It appears that I too will be stimulating the economy soon also, as although those tires look pretty good I just don't feel right riding on rubber that old. More than likely, if I wait too long I won't be able to find the dang things at the rate factories are closing, so better spend something before I can't get a new old tire.

Thanks Rob-Roy and nice truck. I'm never going to hear the end of it from my dad about how I passed on a complete 41 for a 47-54 series (the thing was pretty badly rusted, though).

Thanks to the rest of you, as well, but my motive was to get away from the CRIMINALLY EXPENSIVE bias ply tires like coker's and others.

I second the Diamond Back Classics. The owner will talk your leg off and give you the straight answer on any question. They will make a custom white side wall width if you ask. I had to, the wife wanted something nobdy made. Great business people.

I picked up a Jim carter 6.50x16 tire the other day. Looks good, was less than $100 I think around $80. I plan to get my replacement 1/2 tires from him in the future if they keep the current brand.

Maybe STA stands for the Super Transport Light Truck Bias Ply Tires from Specialty Tires of America?

This is another example of bias tires made in the USA.

Cooper radial tires are supposedly made in the USA. Cooper makes an excellent SRM II LT Radial Light Truck radial tire that has an original looking high profile and original black wall.

For those who care, Cooper Tire also sells bias ply tires but they are not made in the USA.

your right, I did not have much light when I went out to look last night, but it is specialty tires of america, super transport series tires.
