I fitted the CPP six lug disk brake conversion to the front of my truck last year. They are working really well.

The thing is, I don't know what brake pads were used with conversion. The pads and calipers CPP used must have been made for a stock car or truck.

I'm coming over to Colorado next month and would like to buy myself a spare set of disk brake pads in an auto parts store while I'm in the USA. Can anyone tell me what parts I should be asking for?

Thanks in anticipation, Stuart.

I'm fairly sure that they use the rotors and calipers from a mid 70's to early 80's 4X4. The brake pads should be the same for the 4X and regular 2 WD 1/2 ton trucks of that era.

I'd just like to be sure, as it will be a long way to bring them back from the UK to Denver if I buy the wrong pads!

Hi Stuart....Me again! wave

Your calipers look suspiciously like 69/72 'intermediate' GM calipers.
I think these are pretty much 'industry standard' on most brake conversion kits.
They look exactly the same as mine and I was told to ask for 1970 Chevelle pads.
I hope this points you in the right direction.

You should be able to get pads here in 'Blighty' and I don't think they are expensive.
Buy them here and it'll free up some baggage allowance for other goodies!
Try these guys or perhaps these fellas I'm sure one of them could help.

YES thanks, I did have a good Hogmany! yahoo and have fun in Denver!

Did you figure it out yet? I have the same setup (CCP brakes 6-lug and power steering)as I saw in the picture and like to know as well what pads fit for future reference.

How is your power steering working?

I have some problems with scharp korners or roundabouts (the weehl does not turn enough in)here in Germany, and have also pump steer that I need to work on.

I also have a very rough ride (350-350 combo) and thinking about doing somthing with my leave springs since everything else is new. Changed the Shocks from Gas (ccp)to a cheeper type but it has not changed much. Would like to go to IFS but that doesn't make sence with all that money spend with brakes, steering and everything else new.

Well, hope you have fun bildin

Take care
Bernd

Bernd,
The CPP power steering conversion worked fine when I installed it on my truck. But like you, I found that it gave very poor steering lock. I fixed this by shortening the steering arm (the one that bolts to the spindle) by 1 1/16" inch. I did this by building up each side of the arm with weld to create enough material for the new boss where the CPP one necks down. I then bored a 7 degree included angle hole 1 1/16" nearer the mounting face. this was to accept the drag link balljoint. Once this was done I cut off off the original ball joint hole.

This modification increases the steering lock so that the track rod ends just clear the shock absorber mountings at full lock; it makes a big difference to the way the steering works. The steering still isn't quick by European standards (3.5 turns lock-to-lock) but I've found it's OK on crowded British roads, even in the centre of London.

Re. your suspension, I have a 350/Tremec TKO in my truck, I've found the ride is OK. Have you oiled or greased your leaf springs? I've found that it makes quite a difference to the ride as against having "dry" springs.

Good luck with your truck. Stuart.

Hi Stuart,

thanks for the info.

The mistake that I did with the suspention was probably that someone lowerd the truck about an 1 1/2 Inch by redoing the leave spring. They are nearly strait what gives probably the tough ride. Yes the leaves have greace inbetween the leayers.
I should have never taken that advice to lower the truck that way. Now it is hard to get it back the original way!!!!

It's learning the hard way =(

Do you experiance Bump steer?? How much different is the ride with the anti rollbar?

Thanks

stuart,
couldnt you just call CPP and ask them what pads to use ?

i have a 5 lug front disc conversion for my 57 from performanceonline and they use 1970-1978 camaro pads and calipers.

just looked at your website, and man, you got one heck of a nice fabrication shop. i am jealous. LOL.

Bernd, I don't have any noticeable bump steer on my truck, but the ride height is near stock at the front,so my drag link is parallel to the road when the truck is stationary. If your truck has been lowered you may need to crank the Pitman arm to get the drag link parallel to the road; this should make a big difference to the bump steer if your drag link runs steeply uphill or downhill now.

The anti rollbar (swaybar) has improved the cornering a lot, but doesn't seem to have affected the ride otherwise.

Thanks Fred, along with lots of other useful parts, I picked up a set of 1975 C10 2WD pads at the NAPA store in Denver last week, they are the correct pads for my CPP 6 lug conversion.

Here's the NAPA part number if anyone else needs it.

Thanks to all for your help. Stuart.
