For helping keep this great
old truck web site
on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 40 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Dec 2008 Posts: 40 | I'm looking at a 1966 Chevrolet 4x4 and am wondering what engine would be in it? It has an updated ignition under the hood, does that mean anything? could the original engine have that?
The truck also has locking hubs, is that standard on a '66 4x4?
Something else i remember, when the truck was running and i revved the engine a light came on on the dash that i believe said GEN? Is that generator and if so does that mean anything about the battery not charging?
thanks

No other engines that I know of were used. The lockout hubs are stock, I have heard but not seen non locking hubs on these. Replacement hubs are available, BUT at about 350 bucks from milemarker. My 66 does the same thing when revved up, it shouldn't, so it has a charge problem of some sort. Not a big fix, either an alternator or regulator. Simple-ist to put on a one wire alt. An original motor should have a points ign. Anything newer is better unless you are a resto guy. HEI runs and idles so much better AND everyone has forgotten how to use a dwell meter for setting points. Hope this helps.

From John Gunnell's book it looks like the 327 V8 became available in 1966. | | | | | Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 Shop Shark | | Shop Shark Joined: Dec 2003 Posts: 2,733 | "AND everyone has forgotten how to use a dwell meter for setting points."
