Putting cowl mount mirrors on -confused. I want to put rectangular mirrors on both sides. It works well on the left but not on the right. The ones from the suppliers are 5.5 by 7.5 inches and I get interference with the crooked arm. My rusty original is 4.5 by 8.5 inches and would work but it's ugly.

Anyone know a supplier with a mirror that would work? The 4 inch round mirror I've found is just too small to really see out of. Got any suggestions?

I used the stock AD replacement mirrors.....the driver's side worked well, but the pass side mount, looking through the windshield was worthless!!!! Until I put a large convex mirror over the stock mirror surface. Now, I wouldn't be without it!!!! You can catch a view of a vehicle in the right lane without even taking your eyes off the road. No more blind spot.

My only complaint (weak) is that it gets in the way when cleaning the windshield!!!! BTW...the reinforcement pad with hole locations for the stock pass. side mount can be drilled out from the inside after popping out the glove box.

5" round was the original size. 5" and larger round black or stainless mirrors are readily available. (I like convex on the passenger side, too).

I didn't see any mirrors at the site that have the stud mount. Did I misss that/

Click on "View Large Image" beneath the photos. You will see a bolt head that holds a zinc-plated bracket to a pivot-socket on the back of the mirrors. Get rid of the bracket.

The bolt diameter is a little larger than the diameter in the standard Advance-Design mirror arms - just drill out the hole in the arm.

I like stainless hardware, so I cut the head off a stainless steel bolt and put a stainless acorn nut on threaded shaft.

Also, on one of my trucks, I put 6" convex black mirrors on both sides. The viewing area is excellent.

I have used the black and the stainless (because I think the "ribs" on the back look more like the original black mirrors). I think the stainless is polished but it has been a while since I bought it (and, it is packed away somewhere).

I've loved cars since my first, a '50 Olds Rocket 88 coupe. Had lots of fun running that little jewel against the mid-fifties Fords.

I drove a '48 pickup to the dump every week when I worked for a Studibaker/Rambler dealer in Valpo, IN while going to school. Guess it got into my blood, I had to buy this '54 a few years back and put into storage.

Now that I'm retired, I want to get it on the road really bad. It needs lots of work, the engine is done the cab needs a lot. I'm learning to MIG weld and have the replacement panels.

my truck has neither driver or passenger side mirrors and i want to put both on. I know where to put the passenger one but i don't know where to drill to put in the druvers mirror. Any help would be appreciated. It is a 1952 GMC 1/2 ton and i have already ordered all my parts and got round mirrors.

Welcome Wingert. Look up under the cowl with a flashlight and you should see reinforcement plates that will tell you where to drill. Here's a picture courtesy of Denny Graham:
