I just got this 53 gmc coe and it has a 2 speed vacume rear end. Someone before me had to replace the rear end with another one. (Other one gave out) The lines are NOT connected and the actuator in the engine compartment has been removed. But, I think I have it as it has 3 vacume connections. I need a picture or two of how and where it is mounted. as well as what line goes where on the rear end. I see there is a vacume canaster under the truck as well.Does anyone have a service manual showing this set up? My stock manual talks about it but, no pictures and mainly focuses on the smaller trucks. The more pics the better. I took pics of the way mine is set up now. I know I will need to replace all the metal lines. They are mostly good shape but, one is rusted away. For safety I will replace it. If anyone knows where I can get a correct vacume actuator that is new or nos please let me know. I do not know the condition of these parts. I want everything rebuilt. thanks. I may be interested in an upgrade to electric. but, prefer the stock.

That was standard for a 350 series GMC. It would be nice if you could find a Eaton model 16600 from a 450 series GMC COE, or Eaton model 17501 from a 470 series GMC COE. They are both electric shift two speed axles. No need for all that plumbing. | | | | Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 226 Shop Shark | Shop Shark Joined: Sep 2008 Posts: 226 | That is true spanky. I have been calling and leaving messages for you but, no return call? I was looking for pics if your coe has a vacume unit. I do not know where I can get an electric set up near me. plus the cost. I have no idea what it would cost. mine is a working unit. I talked with the previous owner two owners ago who was the last one to drive this truck. He blew up the rear end and then found this one. He drove the truck this one came from. so assuming that now drove it after him would make me think that is it good and will work.
Someone removed the vacume switch unit from the firewall and it is loose. so, I am trying to figure out how it connects and where and how it mounts to the firewall as the two holes on the vacume switch do not match any holes on the firewall. so maybe it mounts somewhere else or it mounts to another bracket?
I don't know but, I need to figure it out. I am looking to replace the unit and most items that can go bad as I don't know the condition of these parts.
