The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area Engine Shop 292 Engine Color?

I have a 66 Suburban with a 292 in it, and I noticed the other day when I was rooting around, that the Engine Block is painted orange, and the Head, Valve Cover, and Side Plates are painted blue. I have seen pictures of engines for sale that were painted blue, and I have seen pictures of 6 cyl's in the vehicle that were painted orange. What should the color be for this 292 in a 1966 Burb? Thank you

high temp paint after high temp primer after etching

i used GM alpine green on my side covers and mercury valve cover and thermostat housing. the rest is marine dark gray.

Ps, is it wrong i have a mercruiser cover over my valve assembly or my color isn't right for my year. will i lose points?

According to the site Tim posted, the correct color for your year truck would be green or dark gray. I've only seen green on 292's for the early years. GM changed the color to orange around '68 or so, and then they were blue in the 80's.
You might have a later engine, or someone just painted it orange. The head and side covers may be from a much later engine due to the blue color.

I have a '64 292 that's green, and about to get repainted after a rebuild. The closest match I found was Krylon Detroit Diesel Green. Thanks for the link tclederman! I'm glad to see the tip from Carl Peterson at the bottom that confirms the Krylon 2013 is a match.
